A Brief History
Hotspur Football Club, the forerunner of Tottenham Hotspur, was founded by a group of students of All Hallows Church in 1882. Name by name allegedly given Hotspur Sir Henry Percy, also called Harry Hotspur in the works of William Shakespeare, Henry IV part one. Sir Henry owned land in the founding of the club, thus affecting the selection of the name of the club by students from the grammar school. In 1884, the club was renamed Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Athletic Club in order to prevent a name in common with other clubs, London Hotspur. Switch clubs so professional status in 1895, and then follow the Southern League.
Tottenham encouraging achievement never before finally for the first time successfully won the Division One season 1950/51. The current Spurs players, among others, Alf Ramsey, Ronnie Burgess, Ted Ditchburn, Duquemin Lee, Sonny Walters and Bill Nicholson. Style "push and run" is introduced to make Tottenham manager Arthur Rowe respected opponents and make the team considered during the decade. However, the league title two new Spurs won just ten seasons later. One factor supporting success, presumably because the White Hart Lane ground conditions are poor, even for the size of the moment.
In 1958, Bill Nicholson became manager and start one of the club's golden period. During the 16 years of work in the team technical bench, Nicholson won eight major titles. When Nicholson retired, the Spurs lost the nail in the Premier League. Spurs relegated in season 1976/77 after 27 years of competing in the top tier. Bad facts is followed by sales of mainstay goalkeeper Pat Jennings to their eternal rivals, Arsenal, who strongly opposed the fans of course. In the 1980s until the 2000s, Spurs force counted in the arena league. But, they are merely a surprise club that has not really been able to dominate the competition as a team with a winning mentality.
